Tortoises also have shorter heads, while sea turtles show a pair of prefrontal scales and can exceed 1 meter in length.
3 Diet and Daily Behavior
Tortoise habits: they are land reptiles whose body temperature follows the environment, so they need specific humidity, temperature, and light. They eat plants—roots, leaves, fruit, vegetables—and can fast for long stretches; extreme heat or cold kills appetite. They need sunlight to make calcium and occasionally soak to avoid dehydration.
Sea turtle habits: they live in water except to nest and bask, swimming up to 24 km/h. Females nest on soft beaches at night in summer, covering eggs that hatch in 45–60 days before the young head to sea.
