How to Earn Your Hamster’s Trust?
Building a close bond with your hamster starts with earning its trust. New hamsters are easily frightened by unfamiliar surroundings and can become stressed, so give them time to settle in before handling. Win trust by placing the cage in a quiet, low-traffic room, letting the hamster adjust for a few days, approaching slowly and speaking softly, hand-feeding treats to build positive associations, and gradually increasing gentle contact. Never startle or force a hamster to interact—respect its pace and personality. With patience and consistency, your hamster will learn to see you as safe and form a lasting, affectionate bond.
White Java Sparrow
The white Java sparrow is a captive white color form of the Java sparrow (Padda oryzivora), developed in Japan. The chick is grey-backed and turns snow-white as an adult, with red bill and feet. Gentle and people-friendly, it is a popular beginner hand-tame bird, though temperamental toward other birds.
Lark (Bailing)
The lark (bai ling, family Alaudidae) is the signature bird of the grassland, a small songbird with a pretty crest and a conical bill, famous for singing while hovering high overhead. Note: in China the lark is listed as a Class II protected animal, so wild capture and keeping are restricted.
Crested Myna
The crested myna (Acridotheres cristatellus) is a common and uniquely Chinese cage bird, all black with a yellow bill and feet and white wing patches that form a figure-eight in flight. Highly intelligent and a great mimic, it is a favorite talking bird.
African Grey Parrot
The African grey parrot (Psittacus erithacus) is a large parrot and a typical perching bird, famous as one of the few animals that can truly hold a conversation with humans, with very high intelligence and a lifespan around 50 years.
White Chinchilla
The white chinchilla is a coat-color morph of the chinchilla (Chinchilla lanigera), native to the Andes of South America. It likes dry, cool, dim places, is nocturnal, gentle and very timid, and commands a higher price for its pure white coat.
Red-billed Blue Magpie
The red-billed blue magpie (Urocissa erythrorhyncha) is a large, elegant cage bird with red bill and feet and a very long, graceful tail. It is hardy, omnivorous and a noted ornamental bird that eats many pest insects.
Hwamei (Chinese Hwamei)
The hwamei (Garrulax canorus) looks plain but has a famously loud, melodious song and has long been a prized cage bird in China. It is shy and alert, feeds on insects and seeds, and is the city bird of Guangzhou.
Syrian Hamster
The Syrian hamster (Mesocricetus auratus), also called the golden hamster or 'pearl bear', is a hamster from Asia and the first species kept as a pet. Docile and easy to breed, it lives 2 to 3 years with good care and comes in over 40 color varieties.
Winter White Dwarf Hamster (Milky Tea morph)
The 'milky tea' hamster is a coat-color morph of the Winter White dwarf hamster (Phodopus sungorus), named for its even, milk-tea-colored back. Some show the 'winter white' effect, turning silvery white in cold weather and reverting when warm. It is one of the prettiest of the dwarf hamsters and good for beginners.
