Hamsters can eat apples, but not too much at once. They are omnivorous, mainly eating grains with some fruits and vegetables. Apples supplement vitamins and sugar and aid gut motility and digestion, but too much easily causes diarrhea, so keep each serving under 1/8 of a slice. Note apples are high in sugar; long-term overfeeding causes obesity, so control frequency. Also remove the seeds first – apple seeds contain cyanide and can poison the hamster.
