Can a Brazilian (red-eared slider) turtle recognize its owner?

A Brazilian turtle (red-eared slider) can recognize its owner. Although reptiles are not highly intelligent, red-eared sliders are smarter than many other turtles such as the Chinese pond turtle, money turtle or snapping turtle, and they have a degree of recognition ability. If the owner feeds it consistently for more than a week, it gradually becomes familiar. Generally, the more familiar it is, the tamer it behaves, so feed it on a regular schedule. Also, in an unfamiliar environment a slider is reluctant to eat; once it knows the owner, it will eat openly in front of you.
