Precautions for feeding a cat doxycycline tablets — how should I give them?

Feline doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic used against gram-negative, gram-positive bacteria and mycoplasma. Owners must follow the vet’s instructions and dose by the cat’s weight — never increase the amount, or it will harm the cat.

It is contraindicated in animals with severe liver or kidney impairment. Occasional side effects include, but are not limited to, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain. Given on an empty stomach it may cause reflux gastritis or esophageal ulcers.

When administering, use correct technique to avoid choking. Proper handling prevents drug-induced choking death.
