What Winter Warming Measures Suit Rabbits?
📝 Summary
Rabbits like 17-27℃; newborn kits need ~25℃ to avoid fatal chilling. Winter is here, so warming matters. What measures? We explain.
1 Overview
I. How to Warm Rabbits in Winter
1. Add a small nest with hay inside for warmth.
2. More exercise to generate body heat.
3. Above 10℃, no over-warming, or the rabbit loses natural cold resistance. Add energy feed for heat.
4. Rabbits have dense fur; no clothes needed – some dislike them.
5. Never face the rabbit into wind; windy spots are colder, so block drafts in winter.
II. Winter Rabbit Care Notes
1. Environment.
In winter and summer, do not keep rabbits on balconies or terraces – even enclosed, the temperature is clearly lower; move them indoors. Best avoid balconies any season.
In low or windy weather, keep doors/windows shut and the rabbit in a warm room, but ensure ventilation for easy breathing. On low, sunny days, let it sunbathe to warm it and kill microbes.
2. More exercise.
Exercise is needed, especially caged rabbits – free them 1-2 hours daily. If outside, pick sunny, low-wind days and sheltered spots. If time lacks, at least twice a week.
3. More feed.
Green feed is scarce and energy use is high in winter, so give high-protein, high-energy concentrates plus some greens and carrots – about 1/3 more than other seasons.
The above is our winter care and warming guide; we hope it helps.
