The Xigou is fairly suitable for home keeping, but a home with a yard is recommended. As a hunting dog it has abundant energy, runs well and jumps strongly, so it needs substantial daily exercise and does not suit a cramped space. It is also alert and loyal to its owner; though gentle, it has a strong territorial instinct, making it a good guard and family companion.
