The dog’s current state may be from several causes: 1) hepatitis or pancreatitis not fully healed or relapsed – if no recheck was done before discharge this is very possible, so return to the hospital promptly for re-examination and follow-up treatment. 2) A weakened gut after illness and long medication use may have damaged the gastrointestinal lining; if spirits are okay, follow the vet’s advice with broad-spectrum antibiotics, oral bismuth subsalicylate to stop diarrhea, and probiotics to see if it improves.
3) A hidden disease may remain undiscovered – common causes of vomiting and bloody stool include hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, a foreign-body scratch, intestinal tumors, or bowel cancer. Further examination is advised to adjust the medication plan.
