What Happens If a Dog Ingests Povidone-Iodine?

A dog that licks a small amount of povidone-iodine will generally not be poisoned, but ingesting a large quantity can produce toxic symptoms. The main signs of iodine poisoning are vomiting, bloody stool, fever, lethargy, drooling, and in serious cases even shock.

If ingestion happened less than two hours ago, you can induce vomiting with soapy water or diluted hydrogen peroxide. If more than two hours have passed, take the dog directly to a veterinary hospital for examination and medication based on the test results.
