What causes a dog’s scrotal ulcer?

A dog’s scrotal ulcer may be caused by orchitis or scrotal dermatitis. It is recommended to carefully check the affected area; if only the scrotal skin surface is damaged and ulcerated, it is most likely scrotal dermatitis. In this case, put an Elizabethan collar on the dog promptly to prevent it from licking the area and worsening the infection.

Then rinse the affected area with saline or a 3% alum solution, and after cleaning apply a layer of antibiotic ointment on the surface, while giving the dog an appropriate amount of pet-specific antibiotics. If the dog’s symptoms do not improve, take it to a vet promptly.
