My nearly three-month-old kitten has ear mites that blocked its ears; I cleaned but could not reach inside, bought ear cleaner and ear-mite medicine, but the kitten cannot shake the debris out, so I cleaned manually — what should I do?

Suspected ear mites with no debris shaken out is normal because a cat's ear canal is L-shaped and holds secretion at the bend; simple cleaning cannot finish it. After the cleaner and medicine arrive, fill the canal, massage the base 5 to 10 seconds so the cat shakes some out, wipe the outer ear, then apply a drop or two of mite medicine for 2 to 4 weeks. Never use cotton swabs inside; use an Elizabethan collar and a monthly selamectin preventive.

My dog went out to play, came home and stopped eating, vomited the next day, only drinks water, sleeps more, and is less lively with low energy lately

Vomiting yellow fluid with no eating or drinking is usually a serious gastrointestinal disease and needs a confirmed cause before medication. For indigestion, give probiotics; for gastroenteritis with frequent vomiting, withhold food and give pet anti-inflammatory and anti-emetic plus probiotics; if no improvement, get IV fluids. Distemper or parvovirus also cause yellow vomiting and need early hospital care.

Where You Should Never Hit a Dog

Where You Should Never Hit a Dog

Never strike a dog on the nose, tail, belly, or legs — these areas hold delicate nerves, breathing passages, organs, or fragile bones, and a hard blow can cause lasting damage. If you lose your temper, a light pat on the thick thigh or rump is the only safe option, but training works far better than hitting.
