Key Points for Raising Meat Rabbits in Winter

1 Insulate the Hutch

Cold-proofing is the central winter task. Keep temperature stable, not swinging. Meat rabbits prefer 15–25°C; outside it drops production and breeding. For kits keep 20–25°C by sealing the hutch against drafts; if very cold, use a heater, but ensure breathing is not affected.

2 Prepare for Winter Breeding

Good nest warmth is key to winter breeding quality and kit survival and disease control.

3 Increase Feed Amount

Winter burns more energy, so raise feed by 20–30% and balance it, served warm not cold.

With few greens, vitamin deficiency risks rise; secure enough greens or suitable substitutes.

4 Strengthen Management

On a mild midday, open doors and windows to vent foul gas and let rabbits exercise, boosting resistance — but only when warm enough.

5 Keep the Hutch Clean

Manage nests closely: clean and change bedding often, keep dry. Remove droppings promptly so they do not pile up and raise disease or chill — strengthen winter sanitation.

6 Prevent Frostbite

In wind or snow, check rabbits; if frostbite appears, move to warmth and apply plant oil; for swelling, iodine glycerin; if it breaks and ulcers, squeeze the fluid, apply antibiotic ointment and bandage if needed.
