Is My Cat’s Dry Nose a Sign of Illness?

1 Sleeping
A resting cat keeps a steady body temperature and low energy use, so the nose dries – normal and temporary. It returns to damp once the cat moves around.
2 The Environment
A dry, hot room plus low water intake dries the nose; this also happens at season changes or after long time in AC. Coax more drinking, add a humidifier, and keep air flowing.
3 Illness
Once the normal causes are ruled out, a dry nose means sickness – colds, fever, or internal heat. Watch for lethargy, low appetite, or fever; if present, see a vet and never dose the cat at home to avoid poisoning. A constantly dry nose all day deserves extra care, and an overly wet nose may also signal a cold.
