Hamsters can eat carrots, but not too many at once. Carrots contain various vitamins, and moderate feeding benefits a hamster’s health. They are also sweet and crunchy, so most hamsters love them. But a hamster’s gut is weak and its digestion is far below a human’s; eating too many carrots at once can cause diarrhea and belly pain, and in severe cases even enteritis, so feed only about a fingernail-sized piece each time. A hamster’s daily diet is mostly grains; it does better with wheat, sunflower seeds, and corn, while vegetables like onion, chives, and celery must not be eaten.
