Why does my dog have a lot of eye discharge?

A dog’s heavy eye discharge may be caused by “heat,” eye inflammation, or viral disease. First, long-term feeding of oily food causes “heat” and increased eye discharge; adjust the diet to be light and give the dog more water. Second, eye diseases such as keratitis or conjunctivitis also cause the above symptoms; try pet-specific eye drops, and if ineffective, take the dog to a vet promptly. In addition, infection with parvovirus or distemper virus also increases eye discharge, often with reduced appetite and lethargy; if these abnormalities are found, seek veterinary care promptly.
