Why Dogs Have Bad Breath
π Summary
Dog bad breath mainly comes from poor cleaning, letting bacteria and tartar build and smell. Brush starting young with gauze then a dog toothbrush using dog-only paste (dogs swallow foam), and add dental chews, carrot or boiled oxtail to scrape and massage the teeth.
1 Brush the Teeth
Most dogs dislike having their mouth touched, and some resist cleaning on purpose, so start young. At a few months, gently rub the teeth with a small gauze square so the puppy adapts, then switch to a dog toothbrush. Always use dog-formulated toothpaste – dogs cannot spit foam and may swallow it, causing stomach upset.
2 Chew and Diet Aids
For dogs that refuse brushing, buy dental-chew toys that clean the mouth, or mix carrot with kibble since carrot scrapes stains. Boiling oxtail gives tendons that massage and clean parts a brush cannot reach.
