Why does a puppy get rectal prolapse?

A puppy may get rectal prolapse from constipation, proctitis, or diarrhea. If mild, the owner can reposition it. First clean the protruding area with 0.1% potassium permanganate solution or soapy water, and clean and disinfect your own finger.

Then carefully push the prolapsed part back with your finger, avoiding damage to the rectal mucosa. If prolapse continues, take the puppy to a veterinary clinic.
