1 Overview

I. Symptoms of Dog Encephalitis

According to the literature, a dog with encephalitis may develop the following symptoms: loss of appetite, abnormal mental state, elevated temperature, failure to recognize the owner, barking frantically, slow running, lethargy, limb incoordination, circling, slow reaction, convulsions. In severe cases, drooping eyelids, dilated pupils, and general paralysis may also occur. Some parasites, infectious diseases, and head injuries can trigger dog encephalitis, so once symptoms appear, it is best to take the dog to the hospital as soon as possible.

II. Treatment of Dog Encephalitis

1. Anti-shock, anti-allergy, and prevention of secondary infection: 50-100 ml of normal saline, 5% glucose, 4-8 mg of dexamethasone, 0.25-0.5 g of vitamin C, and 0.5-1 g of ampicillin, administered by intravenous injection or drip, twice daily for 2-3 consecutive days.

2. Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory: 50 mg/kg (body weight) of the drug; 1-2 ml/10 kg (body weight) of 2.5% Haida injection, by intramuscular injection for 4-5 consecutive days.

3. Symptomatic treatment: intramuscular injection of chlorpromazine 25-50 mg, twice daily; for dogs with high fever, intramuscular injection of compound aminopyrine 2-4 ml, vitamin B1 10 mg, vitamin B2 20 mg, vitamin C 10 mg, to maintain normal nervous system function.

4. For patients with a longer course of disease, ATP, coenzyme A, cytochrome C, and 10% glucose solution can be added by intravenous drip.
