Why Do Cats Fight?

If you offer a tempting toy or a can of food without dividing it, two cats may come to blows simply over the resource.
3 Territory and Mating
Two tomcats that have never met are likely to fight on first encounter—tomcats are highly territorial and will brawl to defend their space.
If a female in heat is nearby, males may fight over her. And sometimes it is simply two cats that have taken a dislike to each other and built up a long grudge.
