Dogs cannot eat chocolate because it contains caffeine and theobromine, both toxic to them. After eating chocolate a dog may show poisoning symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea, and may even suffer acute kidney failure, seriously threatening its life. The owner must never feed chocolate to a dog.
Beyond chocolate, any food containing caffeine or theobromine must also be kept from dogs to avoid harming them.
