2 Caring for a Musk Turtle
A musk turtle stays small, usually under 13 centimeters as an adult, so a small glass tank is enough for one, though a larger setup is needed for groups. Provide hides such as rocks, driftwood, or planted vegetation because the species is shy. Keep the temperature between 23 and 28 degrees Celsius; below 10 degrees it enters hibernation, so warm the water gradually without removing the turtle. It tolerates modest water quality, but treat tap water by letting it stand for three days to release chlorine, and run a filter with regular changes. Feed a quality sinking turtle pellet (not floating, since it forages at the bottom) with some live food, and avoid overfeeding.
