Neutering a male dog means removing the testicles. The surgery is fairly simple: first a small incision is made to the left of the penis, the testicles are pushed out, the tunic is opened and the spermatic cords tied off, both testicles are removed, and finally the wound is stitched.

Although the incision is small, after surgery keep it clean and disinfected to avoid infection that slows healing. Also, stop the dog from vigorous exercise so the wound does not split open and let bacteria in.
