When does a newborn kitten defecate?

Newborn kittens cannot defecate on their own and need the mother’s licking to stimulate it, so timing depends on her; generally 3-4 times daily. Stools are small and yellow and loose.

Without a mother, wipe the anus with a warm wet cotton swab every 2-3 hours to stimulate defecation.
