1. Damp Environment

A humid habitat or long-unused bedding makes the hamster wet.

Solution: Keep the habitat dry and clean; change bedding regularly, or the hamster gets wet and smelly.

2. High Temperature

In summer or high heat, the hamster wets itself with drinking water to cool down.

Solution: Move the cage to a cool, ventilated or air-conditioned spot in summer to prevent heatstroke.

3. Leaking Bottle / Urine Residue

If only the tail and belly are wet, it is likely urine or a leaking bottle.

Solution: Replace the bottle; for urine, just wipe the hamster dry with a towel or tissue.

4. Wet Tail

If besides a wet tail there is diarrhea, poor appetite, and a clear odor, it may be wet tail disease.

Solution: Give probiotics to regulate the gut and cure it. If no improvement, see a vet, as it can be fatal.
