What should I do if a young kitten has pus from its eyes and can’t open them?

Eye discharge with pus and inability to open the eyes is most likely caused by an eye infection. If an unvaccinated cat shows these symptoms, feline rhinotracheitis (cat flu / feline herpesvirus) should also be considered. If possible, it is best to take the cat to a veterinary clinic for an examination to determine the cause and apply the right treatment. If the cat has feline rhinotracheitis, it should be given interferon along with antiviral and anti-inflammatory medication. Prompt treatment is important here, otherwise the kitten’s life may be at risk.
