Normally a cat’s stool should be brown or dark brown (it may look more yellow if the cat eats raw meat). Black stool or stool with blood streaks indicates gastrointestinal bleeding and needs prompt veterinary attention.
Ideally, stool is medium-firm, smooth-surfaced, and has a mild odor that isn’t overpowering. Soft stool, diarrhea, or especially foul-smelling stool can also point to gastrointestinal or other metabolic disease.
