How to Manage Parrots in Summer
1. Parasites and bacteria are active, and feed molds in heat, so feed little and often, clean feeders and waterers more, change water often. Add a little mycotoxin binder to feed and a little water-purifying disinfectant to drinking water.
2. Guard against mosquitoes. They bite unprotected areas—beak, feet, eyes—causing swelling and even fowl pox. Use a bird-safe mosquito killer in the cage, following the label; or mosquito coils outside the cage.
3. Guard against blood-sucking mites. They come out at night, hide in nest seams or feed trays by day, suck blood, spread disease, even kill. Hard to erase; mix mite powder into bedding, and use low-irritation cleaners in nests during breeding.
4. Let them rest during molt (July–August): stop breeding, disinfect cage and aviary, clear molted feathers to prevent infection.
5. Prevent heatstroke. Though heat-tolerant, parrots overheat in high heat and poor ventilation, even dying. Add Huoxiang Zhengqi liquid or vitamin C to water to relieve; in low humidity, spray diluted Huoxiang Zhengqi in the aviary to cool.
