4 Treatment

Treatment follows the underlying cause with corresponding symptomatic and supportive care. Veterinary-directed antibiotics target bacterial and many protozoal infections, while antifungal therapy is used for fungal causes and antiparasitic drugs for mite or worm drivers.

Tumor-related lymph node disease requires specialist oncologic management. Supportive care includes pain control, skin care for pyoderma, and correction of dehydration or anemia as needed.

Control external and internal parasites, keep living areas clean and well ventilated, and treat wounds and dental disease early to limit spread to lymph nodes.
