How Often Do Betta Fish Breed?

Betta fish can breed throughout the year and as often as once a week. However, breeding should not be too frequent; to ensure offspring quality it is best to limit it to about once a month. Frequent breeding harms the female’s health and lowers fry survival, and may even cause genetic mutation or deformity, so the keeper should control the frequency reasonably. Bettas usually begin breeding at about 6 cm in length, and a female can lay over 200 eggs at a time with a hatch rate above 90%.
