When a dog has a cold, its stool should be normal, with no soft stool, diarrhea or constipation. But chilling can cool the gut, or lowered immunity from the cold can let harmful bacteria in and cause gastroenteritis.
If you see soft stool or diarrhea, give pet-specific anti-diarrhea and anti-inflammatory medicine plus probiotics. If it doesn’t improve, or the cold comes with fever, lethargy, diarrhea or vomiting, see a vet to rule out distemper or other infectious disease.
