1 Common Hazards

For dogs, store socks and bottle caps away and always leash on walks to avoid road scraps and sharp objects; never let them eat chocolate, grapes, onions, liver, or bones.
2 What to Do by Type
Hard objects like needles, bones, or caps usually need surgical removal, so go to a trusted clinic promptly. For toxic food, inducing vomiting within two hours helps: give 3 percent hydrogen peroxide at 1 ml per kg orally, repeat 0.5 ml per kg after 15 minutes if needed, then head to the hospital. For strong acid or alkali corrosives, do NOT induce vomiting; instead give plenty of water or milk to dilute and go immediately. Stay calm, do not dose random drugs, do basic first aid, then let the vet decide treatment.
