Training of the Dogo should start from a young age; a well-trained Dogo is very smart. If you keep a Dogo to guard the home, it is an excellent choice. The Dogo is highly loyal to family members and gets along well with all members of the household. In daily life the Dogo always shows people a smart, honest, humble, and friendly attitude, so raising a Dogo is also a good choice.

2 Do You Know the Origin of the Dogo Argentino?

Because of its ferocity and bravery, the Dogo Argentino became one of people’s guardian dogs; however, the discovery and development of the Dogo has a history. Do you know the following about its origin?

The Dogo Argentino originated in Argentina. Long ago, hunting on the Pampas plains, with complex and changeable terrain where even horseback travel was difficult, travel could only be on foot. In the wild where beasts roamed, one might suddenly encounter large wild animals, directly threatening the hunter’s safety. As a hunting dog, it had to bravely meet these beasts without hesitation, charge up and fight, and even when injured hold its ground without retreating, thus protecting the hunter and winning time to prepare or retreat.

From the start of the breeding program in 1928 to 1964 when the Dogo Argentino was accepted by the Argentine canine federation (FCA) took 36 years, and until it was formally recognized by the FCI in 1973 took 45 years. During this, Antonio even paid with his life. During a hunt in 1956, Antonio was tragically stabbed to death. After this tragedy, Agustin inherited his brother’s will to breed the Dogo Argentino. He moved the dogs from Cordoba Province to Santa Rosa City in La Pampa Province where he settled, and there Agustin finally completed the mission of creating the Dogo Argentino.
