Type: Goldfish, temperate freshwater fish

Origin: China

Reproduction: oviparous

Water: pH 7.2-7.5

Care level: easy

Suitable temperature: 10-30 C

2 Appearance

Very pretty; upright tail, dancing like a silver butterfly in water. Choose smooth back, no defective dorsal or nodules.

White belly, cinnabar-red eyes, large upright tail, fin webs connected, edges curving forward like a silver butterfly. A red-white butterfly-tail variant. Very gentle, no bullying. Except breeding season, all goldfish shapes/colors can mix.

3 Husbandry

Follow goldfish care; its tail is special, so choose a suitable tank and avoid injuring the tail at water change.

Oxygen is essential for fish. How do fish in water get oxygen? Air oxygen dissolves into water on contact, and plants release oxygen during photosynthesis into the water.

Natural water has high oxygen 8-12 mg/L, but captive tanks have small opening, limited light, high density, so use an air pump. Low density: 8 h daily; high: 24 h.

4 Feeding

Not hard, but beginners overfeed. Need scientific feeding.

First: balance live and pellet food by stage; slight neglect leads to not round, incomplete loose pearls, or weak crown. Second: feed to 80-90% full; too much makes fat/loose; too little makes thin. Third: small frequent meals for even growth of body and pearls.
