Why is my dog’s tail ulcerating?

There are many causes of a dog’s tail ulcerating, possibly from an injury that wasn’t treated in time leading to secondary infection, or skin disease caused by fungal or bacterial infection. In addition, demodectic mange infection of the tail can also cause ulcers.

If the ulcer is from mechanical trauma, clean the wound with saline and then use anti-inflammatory, bacteria-inhibiting medication. If it is caused by fungal infection, use antifungal medication.

If it is from parasite infection, deworm the dog promptly.
