Why does my kitten meow very quietly and hoarsely?

A cat meowing softly and hoarsely may have an abnormality in its vocal organs; this often occurs and can be normal. If it does not affect daily life, there is no need to worry, just keep observing to see if it improves. If the hoarseness and quiet voice appear suddenly, take the cat to a veterinary hospital soon. The vet will usually perform a laryngeal or airway endoscopy to check for problems. Generally, if the cat shows no difficulty swallowing or coughing, the condition is not serious.
