1. Heat. A female in heat, due to hormonal changes, often howls and rests uneasily, and may mark-urinate — peeing on the bed spreads urine scent to attract males. She may also try to escape or even fall; keep windows and doors shut. Long heat harms health; if you don’t plan to breed, spay after heat to reduce heat behavior, calm her, and lower risks of mastitis and fibroids, extending life.

2. Dirty litter or box. If a normally box-trained cat suddenly pees on the bed, check the box; a filthy or smelly one makes her refuse it. Clean daily and change litter and wash the box regularly. Also, a new litter smell she dislikes can cause accidents.

3. Urinary problems. Bed-peeing can signal stones, cystitis or infection, often with low whimpers while urinating, cloudy or bloody urine. See a vet promptly for a targeted diagnosis.

4. Fright. Severe fright can cause bed-peeing from emotional swings. Cats are sensitive to change — strangers, other animals, moving, rearranged furniture. Calm and reassure her and avoid scares.

Also, some cats pee on the bed out of spite; think if you recently upset her.

5. Lingering urine smell. If a cat pees on the bed while playing and you don’t fully remove the scent, she may treat the bed as a toilet. Clean the smell completely.
