Why does a dog get coccidia infection?

A dog gets coccidia mainly two ways: first, playing on grass may contact oocysts that, once infectious, enter the gut and multiply, causing infection; second, contact with infected dogs or their contaminated food and water also infects. To lower risk, avoid grass play and deworm the dog regularly.
