Luoding quails have fairly weak immunity, especially chicks just brought into the coop. If their down gets wet while drinking, they easily catch a chill and, if not noticed in time, may die. Wetness also raises the rate of digestive disease and can trigger adenogastric gastritis, another cause of chick death.

So when providing drinking water, control the height of the water line and place the bowl outside the cage, so the quails cannot step in it or tip it over and soak their feathers.
