Why can’t you release a red-eared slider (Brazilian turtle) into the wild?

The Brazilian turtle is an invasive species with very strong reproductive ability, and it has been listed by environmental organizations as one of the most destructive species in the world. If released directly into natural waters, it would disrupt the local aquatic ecosystem, encroach on the habitats of native species, and could even throw the entire water body’s food chain into disorder, causing serious damage to local aquatic life.

If you no longer wish to keep a Brazilian turtle after a while, consider giving it to someone else; never release it into the wild.
