When does a female cat usually start going into heat?

A female cat generally starts heat at 7-8 months, no later than 1 year. After maturity she heats twice a year, about every six months, mostly in spring and autumn.

Signs include frequent high-pitched ugly calling, irritability, even scratching, a swollen vulva with clear sticky discharge, and a raised-rear posture.
