1 Causes
Water: Skipping changes and leaving waste fouls water and grows bacteria, causing fuzz.
Temperature: Parrot fish are temperature-sensitive; swings over 2 C or missing heater in season changes trigger fuzz.
Disease: White fuzz or spots are early saprolegniasis (skin fungus); later the area rots, the fish stops eating, and fungus spreads over the body to death.
2 Treatment
Water cause: Change water and clear waste; recover in time. Change about a third every three days, not all.
Temperature cause: Besides changing water, raise to 30 C with a heater, hold it, then settle at 25-28 C. Keep new/old difference within 2 C.
Saprolegniasis: Isolate the fish and salt-bath in 10% salt 4-5 times daily for ~10 minutes; severe cases get potassium permanganate once daily. After about a week the fish returns to normal.
