What symptoms appear before a cat dies?

Before death a cat typically shows loss of appetite, lethargy, and a drop in body temperature, and different causes bring their own additional signs. For a natural death in an old cat, it may hide in a secluded spot and respond slowly, barely reacting when called.

If the cat is dying from gastroenteritis or feline panleukopenia after prolonged vomiting and diarrhea, it will usually show dehydration, reduced skin elasticity, and sunken eyes.
