1. Symptoms and Danger

Cats have no sweat glands and cool only through their paw pads and muzzle, so they overheat easily. Heatstroke is serious: panting, a red nose, rapid breathing, fast heartbeat, and rising temperature, and in bad cases foaming at the mouth, shock, and death.

2. What to Do in an Emergency

1. Move the cat to a cool, airy place at once and wipe its body with a damp towel; lay cool towels on the belly, head, and paws.

2. Dab alcohol on the armpits, inner thighs, inner ears, and paw pads with a cotton swab.

3. If the cat is still conscious, offer a little water.
