What is a dog’s teething period like?

A dog’s teething period is the process of changing from baby teeth to permanent teeth. Generally, baby teeth start growing 2 to 3 weeks after birth; around 3 to 4 months the baby teeth loosen and permanent teeth grow; the whole process lasts until 6 to 8 months.

During teething, dogs need to chew to relieve discomfort and pain, so the owner should prepare teething sticks. In addition, the dog may show reduced appetite because its teeth feel uncomfortable and it avoids hard food. Finally, gum swelling and inflammation may occur; the owner can use a pet oral spray to relieve it.
