What happens with a dog’s patellar luxation?

Patellar luxation is a fairly common canine disease, usually caused by an overly loose patellar ligament or insufficient muscle mass. It causes pain and discomfort in the dog, with symptoms including lameness, reluctance to move, leg swelling and pain, whimpering, or not wanting to be touched.

If you notice the above symptoms, take the dog to a veterinary hospital promptly. Mild patellar luxation can be treated with physical therapy and massage, while severe cases may require surgery.
