What happens when a dog has a fever?

A fevering dog’s temperature rises above 39.5 C, making its skin hot, especially thin areas like ears and belly. It also has red eye membranes, a dry nose, lethargy and poor appetite; a prolonged high fever can damage brain nerves and cause limb twitching. If the fever comes from distemper, infectious pneumonia or parvovirus, death or aftereffects are likely, so seek veterinary care.
