What happens when a dog gets ringworm?

When a dog gets ringworm, it usually shows itchy skin, hair loss, red spots, and more dandruff. The ringworm patches typically spread outward in round or oval shapes with heavy scaling on the surface.

Because of the itch, the dog may scratch, rub, and bite the area often, and without prompt care a secondary bacterial infection can cause widespread dermatitis. If you notice ringworm, take the dog for a skin scraping; once fungal infection is confirmed, use antifungal medication containing terbinafine, ketoconazole, or itraconazole.
