Tap water has much chlorine, easily causing turtle diarrhea and possibly shell or skin rot. A strong turtle may adapt after a few bouts, but weak ones kept in tap water long may die from enteritis or shell rot.

Generally, age tap water in the sun for 2 to 3 days to let chlorine dissipate before using it for the turtle.
