The alligator snapping turtle is an omnivore eating mainly wild fruit, plant stems and leaves, small mammals, and various algae. In captivity, mainly feed specialized turtle pellets plus some meat and vegetables like pork, beef, apple, and greens, and also small shrimp, fish, loach, and frog.
Note some vegetables and fruits must not be fed, such as onion, garlic, and tomato, which may negatively affect the turtle.
