What are the symptoms of liver ascites in dogs?

Common symptoms of liver ascites in dogs include lethargy, reduced appetite, abdominal distension, elevated temperature, yellowing of the skin, and difficulty breathing. Diagnosis usually requires abdominal ultrasound, X-ray, a complete blood count, coagulation tests, and biochemistry panels. Once liver ascites is confirmed, fluid is generally drained and albumin is supplemented by intravenous fluids to control the buildup. Anti-inflammatory and diuretic medications are also used to protect the liver, prevent secondary infection, and restore energy.
